More than 35 players and parents from Beeston FC took to the streets with Santa to bring Christmas cheer to Chilwell - and raise money for local good causes.

The club was out in force in support of Beeston Round Table, which takes its Santa sleigh all over the town and surrounding areas in the run up to Christmas.

And of course, the big man himself was there, Father Christmas, bellowing festive greetings to the children, mums, dads and grandparents, who turned out to greet us.

Eight Beeston FC teams were represented over two nights, including members of the boys' and the new girls' squads.

The Round Table uses the funds it raises to support lots of local groups, including Beeston FC!

“It was fantastic,” said Beeston FC parent-volunteer Charles Walker. “I was on the Redland Drive, Leamington Drive, Attenborough Lane circuit and people were so friendly and generous.

“It was a long walk lasting from 6.30pm until almost 9pm, but all the youngsters (and parents) did brilliantly and kept going with a smile on their faces. The youngest was only six!

“Thanks to all the volunteers who did an amazing job and to the Round Table for putting on this great event and supporting so many groups.”

Beeston FC will use its share of the funds to help pay for costs associated with the regeneration of the Trent Vale Recreation Ground. The club is bidding for £500,000 to restore the pavilion and create a smart new clubhouse with changing rooms, kitchen and function room.

A bid to the Football Foundation is being prepared for early 2019, but first the club must fund fees to the value of £28,000 to pay for architects, plans, planning, cost estimates, flood risk assessment etc.

The club will be given a decision on its bid by the Football Foundation in April 2019.
