Coaches delighted with girls' first competitive match

Beeston FC Girls u13 had their first experience of competitive football in a friendly match against Nottingham Forest Ladies u13.

It was a stern test for the Beeston girls, but they acquitted themselves brilliantly.
The team has been working hard in training and that showed in how they went about the match at Hetley Pearson Recreation Ground.

Despite facing strong and skilful opponents Beeston kept their shape and never stopped trying. They played with a positive spirit and most importantly, enjoyed the experience.

"We are really proud of the girls and the way they stuck to their task,” said assistant coach and parent-volunteer Charlie Walker.

“They are learning all the time and this game was a chance to experience a competitive match for the first time. The players, coach Ann Marie and I learned loads, which we will work on in training. We are all much better for the experience. Most importantly, the girls enjoyed playing. And we can't wait for the next one.

Beeston coach and parent-volunteer Ann Marie Carroll said: "We saw some really good things in how the girls played and we will build on those. The most important thing at this stage is that they played with enthusiasm and positivity. We were also very grateful to the Beeston parents, who turned out to cheer the girls on and help put up and take down the equipment. A great team effort!”

The Forest team played beautifully. They were a credit to themselves and their coaches and parents, playing with a positive spirit as well as flair and strength.

Charlie Walker added: “We are very grateful to Nottingham Forest for the game and the support of their coaches and parents throughout. It was an important day for our girls and club and crucially, an enjoyable one!'

Beeston FC launched a girls' football programme in April 2018 as part of the FA's Wildcats scheme. In the autumn last year the club launched 4 squads at u7 u9 u11 and u13. The u13 group is the first to step into competitive football and our game against Nottingham Forest was the girls' first matchday experience.
