Beeston FC girls’ teams enjoyed special moments when they played their first competitive fixtures.

Beeston u9s (pictured) and u13s took on Clifton u9s and the Beeston Black u11 boys’ team, respectively. The girls impressed coaches and parents alike, and looked fantastic in their new kits.

“It was a brilliant game,” said parent-volunteer Ben Green, the u9s coach. “We are very grateful to Clifton for giving us a game. The girls really rose to the challenge. They should all be proud of themselves. The future is looking very bright! “

Ann Marie Carroll, parent-volunteer and the u13s coach, said: “The girls were so positive and did really well. They work very hard in training and we were so pleased they could show their talents on the pitch in a proper match. Thanks to the boys, their coach and parents for putting the game on. It was brilliant for the girls and they really enjoyed it.”

Beeston FC began a girls’ football programme in spring 2018 as part of the FA’s Wildcats scheme. When that initiative ended in July, the parents of the girls who had participated were asked to consider taking on the roe of coach.

Fantastically, seven parents came forward and they have all made a huge commitment going through FA coaching courses, and taking weekly sessions.

“The club has made a significant investment of money and time in girls’ football and it has been absolutely worth it,” said Charles Walker, a parent and volunteer who is a member of the team that launched girls’ football at Beeston FC. “We have met wonderful people along the way, some of whom are now club coaches, and it is great to see the girls enjoying playing the game.”

There are more than 50 girls in age groups u7, u9, u11 and u13 now signed up at Beeston FC, but we have room for more.

If your daughter would like to play please contact Charles Walker (07803 592032). Training sessions will resume after Christmas in the week beginning January 7 or 14, depending on the age group.
