That was the performance we were waiting for and one that I knew we had in us. On our previous encouters Cotgrave have had the upper hand, beating us in the Shield Final last season and convincingly dumping us out of the cup earlier in this one.
We started brightly and scored early, but Cotgrave quickly replied and looked pretty potent and really good on the break. Flooding forward like this left them quite exposed to the counter and we took advantage.
We redressed the goal advantage before the break and could have had more. I think we were a bit fortunate with a penalty shout against us, but we don’t usually get the luck so...hey ho.
Second half we really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and piled on the pressure. Both wings looked sharp and we were defensively strong.
We quickly scored three more well worked goals. One particularly memorable goal started from the left back with a beautiful jinking run, great through ball, exquisite cross and supercool head to finish the move.
Cotgrave had a brief moment themselves before we scored two more in quick succession to seal the victory.
I had a pint (of lemonade) yesterday afternoon and raised my glass to our rising stars.
Well done boys, making me very, very proud.
COME ON BEESTON!!
