Beeston U11s - Defensive Performance Keeps the Dream Alive

It was an exciting game yesterday after what seems like an eternity away from the pitch. I think that perhaps it showed a little.

It was a defenders game for Beeston and we were under a lot of pressure, particularly in the second half. We managed to fend off much of Long Eatons offensive moves and think they may feel a little hard done to coming away with just the one point.

When we did get the ball, opportunities went begging because we struggled to get out of our deep defensive set.

Having said that, defending is a diminishing art and an important part of the game which we did well. Looking back, although Long Eaton had a lot of possession I can’t say they had that many clear cut chances. (I might be wrong!)

The pressure came when we broke with a lovely counter attack and finish to equalise. It really did feel quite against the run of play though and it felt more likely that Long Eaton would score next. The last 10 minutes dragged agonisingly. The full time whistle finally blew and the points were shared.

The boys worked hard for this point and as in this case it’s not always pretty. It was certainly entertaining enough though.
