Beeston FC extended their unbeaten start to the season to five games with a thrilling 4-4 draw away at Hucknall Town Reserves.

It was a shaky start for Beeston, going 1-0 down in just the 5th minute after failing to clear a cross from the left-hand side, which allowed the Hucknall player to slot home from the edge of the box.

However, Beeston hit back straight away in the 8th minute through new signing Jim Carron! Scott Pickard won a free kick down the left which Knight delivered, and Caron headed home at the back post to level the scores.

Beeston then went on to take the lead, bouncing back from their early setback! Ben Knight weaved his way through the Hucknall defence and pulled across goal from the right, with Ireson tapping home at the back post to give him his 4th goal in five appearances. Hucknall fought their way back to draw level, with the ball played over the top of the Beeston defence, with the Hucknall centre-forward smashing in from the edge of the box.

Just 3 minutes later, Hucknall managed to take the lead once more as a result of Beeston losing possession in their half, allowing the Hucknall player to fire the ball into the net from outside the box. This meant that Hucknall went into half-time with the lead, in what had been an eventful half!

10 minutes after the second half started, Beeston were back in the game after a Scott Pickard equaliser! Whalin was played through down the right and put the cross in, with the Hucknall keeper punching the ball out but only as far as Pickard who shot and scored while the keeper was off his line. 3-3 with over half an hour to go!

Shortly after Beeston’s equaliser, Hucknall took the lead again after a free kick from outside the box was met with a header which put the ball into the back of the net. Yet again, Beeston found an equaliser just 10 minutes later through Ben Knight. Substitute Sainsbury was played down the left and crossed it into the box, which found Ben Knight at the back post who calmly slotted home.

An eventful match to say the least finished 4-4 at the final whistle, with Hucknall and Beeston sharing the points. After five games, Beeston sit at the top of the table, a sight that will be extremely encouraging for their promotion ambitions.

Here’s what manager Josh Streeter had to say about tonight’s game:

“We spoke a lot about last season last week, and we’ve moved on that much as a team that to come back…from being behind three times in a game shows brilliant character from the lads, that real like desire.”

“Hopefully we can take it forward and start turning it into wins, but coming back like that, it’s a great feeling!”

“We wanted to add a bit more quality to the team and the lads who have come in have certainly improved us. Everybody’s stepped their game up this year because they know there’s a lot of competition.”

“The lads from last season, they’re playing out of their skin as well.”

“Yeah definitely [promotion is possible]. I don’t go into any game without wanting to win and we want to be the best in the league, so we’re going to do whatever it takes to do that.”
